The tanka form has been around for centuries. Everyone knows it has a 5-7-5-7-7 syllable count structure in five lines. But not everyone wants to write tanka, so in the 20th and 21st centuries other five-line forms and experiments have arisen. Much of this experimentation has taken place on Facebook and Twitter.
